The elevated trains are integral to my life in Chicago. They run through my neighborhood. I walk under and around them, day and night. In the ironwork, there is the soaring space of a cathedral, utilitarian infrastructure, a hundred years of history. This is the Anthropocene in its daily form, human-created forms merging with the natural. Or is nature reclaiming its territory? In daylight and darkness, quiet spaces and occasional enveloping rumble.
